Christian Z.7 Ways to Look at TimeI. Time is impossible to control. It never waits for you and it never will.
II. If your weekend was too short that’s time’s fault. If you are stuck in a boring lecture and it seems to take forever, that’s also time’s fault. If you missed a plane, that’s time’s fault too. III. Time is Kronos, the evil Titan king who can control time and freeze it. He had tried to overthrow the Greek Olympian gods who eventually sliced him into a million pieces and threw him into the deepest darkest pit in the world. There, he still roams and tries to cling onto another piece of his body. He is determined to overthrow the Olympians again. Perhaps that’s why time is so unfair and unfriendly. IV. But sometimes time is also nice to you. For example, when you are early to a very important meeting that you cannot miss or if you have to get somewhere, in a very short amount of time. V. You neither can slow time, nor speed it up, but you can look back at it. You can look at the photographs you have frozen in time, just like Kronos. VI. Time will never ever change. Time has chosen what it would be and that is what it will be forever. VII. Fifteen billion years ago was the start of time… and the start of Earth itself. Ever since then there were always, seven ways to look at time. |
Hurricane Shannon
She’s not home yet. It is way, way past 11:00, the usual bedtime of Shannon, the owner of the cute, little golden retriever puppy. Tick – Tock, Tick – Tock. The antique grandfather clock in the room across from the front door chimes 12:00. Midnight. Shannon is still not home yet. The puppy is getting increasingly worried as every second passes by.
Then, all of a sudden, a bright streak of light cuts across the dark, night sky like a bullet. Lightning. Thunder shakes the entire house and rain pours down from overhead as if a gigantic faucet had been turned on. The puppy, shaking with fear, scurries under the couch and whimpers.
Lightning and thunder again. This time the thunder is two seconds after the lightning. Two seconds. Two miles. The house goes pitch dark and the heater turns off. The puppy shakes uncontrollably. The power has gone out and the door light outside shimmers and goes off too.
The iPad on top of the counter rings and issues a flash flood warning for many parts of the city. The rain outside looked like it was moving sideways because of the wind. It sounds like a locomotive train thundering on top of the roof.
The puppy notices a moving light outside of the living room window. How strange. The light was goldish and it seemed to be moving even closer to the window. The puppy scurries even deeper underneath the couch, but making sure he still has a good view of the window with the light.
With the help of the mysterious light, the puppy can now see a few weird things that help to make the scene even scarier. The rain was growing wild with almost a gray, murky cloudiness inside every rain drop. The mysterious golden light had stopped…right outside and it seemed to be hovering in midair. Very strange. Then all of a sudden the light disappeared and someone or something jumped out of it. A person with very familiar features looks in the window, but with dangerous looking red, glowing eyes, a fearsome smile, and long, startling fangs. It was Shannon.
